Dr Tan Woan Shin is an interdisciplinary researcher with a background in economics. Her research work adopts a range of quantitative and qualitative methodologies to support evidence-based health services development, implementation, and evaluation. These include the application of evidence synthesis methods, quasi-experimental study designs, statistical techniques, and cost-effectiveness analyses.
Woan Shin has collaborated with stakeholders in healthcare, charitable organisations, and government agencies. Leading multi-disciplinary research teams, she has completed numerous projects that evaluated and translated interventions into meaningful patient care or health outcomes. Her work has been published in leading academic journals such as Palliative Medicine, Age & Ageing and the Journal of American Geriatrics Society. Woan Shin also teaches at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and National University of Singapore (NUS) as an invited lecturer within the field of health services research and implementation science.
Prior to joining GERI, Woan Shin was a researcher with the Health Services and Outcomes Research Group at the National Healthcare Group where she oversaw the department's health systems research efforts. Woan Shin received her Ph.D. in Health Services Research from NTU as a National Medical Research Council Research Fellow. She holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Economics from NUS.
