Professor May C. Wang is a senior faculty member at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and has held visiting professor appointments at the NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health. She has interests and expertise in transdisciplinary research and training. Trained in nutritional sciences, community nutrition and nutritional epidemiology, she leads interdisciplinary teams on research aiming to address food insecurity in vulnerable populations throughout the life-course. Her research areas include maternal and child nutrition; food insecurity, obesity and social determinants of health; food policies, systems and sustainability; and implementation science.
Professor Wang’s diverse academic and work experiences have facilitated her leadership of interdisciplinary studies, most of which have been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the United States Department of Agriculture. She currently co-leads a training programme funded by the NIH titled “Modelers and Storytellers: Transdisciplinary Training to Advance Community Health Intervention Research.”
Professor Wang is the recipient of several awards and honours, including the Established Investigator Award from the American Heart Association, Excellence in Education Award from the California Dietetic Association and Excellence in Dietary Guidance Award from the American Public Health Association. She was also a Standing Member of the Health Promotion in Communities Study Section at the NIH and served as a technical advisor to the Los Angeles County Food Equity Roundtable.
