The concept of frailty is rapidly evolving and has continued to be a focal point of interest with progressively emerging research evidence. The theme of this webinar is timely and dovetails with the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) 2023 Action Plan for Successful Ageing. As frailty increases the likelihood of mortality, disability, and poor quality of life among older adults, early detection is critical to prevent, reverse and mitigate the consequences of the condition. In line with this, the World Health Organisation has developed a model of frailty that incorporates the concept of intrinsic capacity (IC). For example, the IC screening index among pre-frail and frail older persons could be used to identify at-risk individuals and allow for relevant interventions to be implemented as part of anticipatory care.
The speakers will share GERI’s research evidence and discuss findings on the evaluation, screening and measurement of frailty to facilitate a more tailored approach to care. By integrating existing frailty care programmes and scaling up across the various healthcare and social systems, older adults can be supported to live and age healthily. Join us in this knowledge exchange platform to share and learn how research findings can be applied in your workplace to better support the elderly.
The Knowledge to Practice Series is conducted regularly by GERI, as a knowledge translation platiorm that brings together various stakeholders, to share research findings and exchange knowledge, in order to enhance eldercare practice and policy formulation.
